1 cup butter or margarine
1-3/4 cups sugar
6 egg whites
3 cups sifted caked flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
In mixing bowl cream butter or margarine. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg whites, two at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine milk, water, and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with liquid, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Beat smooth after each addition.
Bake in 2 greased and lightly floured 9 x 1-1/2-inch round pans at 350 degrees until cake tests done, about 30 to 35 minutes.
Fill and frost cooled layers with desired frosting.
