CAKE
1 cup raisins
2-2/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
3/4 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1 cup buttermilk
3 eggs
1 cup chopped nuts
SEA FOAM FROSTING
2 egg whites
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
Dash of salt
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon corn syrup
1/2 cup toasted coconut
Recipe
CAKE: Rinse raisins with hot water. Sift flour, soda, salt, and spices. Add sugar, shortening and milk. Beat 2 minutes. Add eggs. Beat 1 minute. Stir in raisins and nuts.
Pour into three (8-inch) round greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
FROSTING: In top of double boiler place egg whites, brown sugar, salt, water, and corn syrup. Cook 7 minutes. Spread on cake and sprinkle with toasted coconut.
