    Upside Down Southern Apple Pie

    1/4 cup margarine, softened
    2/3 cup pecan halves
    2/3 cup packed brown sugar
    1 package Pie Crust (2 crusts)
    6 cups peeled and thinly sliced cooking apples
    Juice of 1 lemon
    1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    1 Tablespoon all purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/3 cup chopped pecans

    Spread 1/4 cup butter in bottom of 9 inch deep dish pie plate. Arrange pecan halves rounded sides down. Gently press into butter. Sprinkle 2/3 cup brown sugar over pecans and press. Put pie crust into pie plate and press firmly onto sides and bottom. Combine 1/3 cup brown sugar and remaining ingredients. Sprinkle over apples, toss gently. Spoon apple filling into pie crust. Put top crust on. Flute and prick top to let steam escape. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Then at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Cool 5 minutes then carefully invert on plate.
