Heavenly Angel Chiffon Cake

Try this with lime or orange juice instead of lemon.
List of Ingredients
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup water
4 egg yolks
4 Just Whites (you have to use these, not the egg whites, which don't get cooked)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 teasp salt
1 Tablesp grated lemon rind
whipped cream
one angel food cake
Recipe
Soften gelatin in water 5 min. Beat yolks and add ONE HALF CUP sugar together with the lemon juice and salt. Cook over boiling water until of custard consistency (should coat the back of a spoon). Add grated lemon rind and softened gelatin and stir thoroughly. Put film of plastic wrap directly on surface and cool this.
When it begins to thicken, fold in stiffly beaten Just whites to which the remaining half cup sugar has been added.
Fill bottom of tube pan with a thin layer of chiffon. Tear cake in pieces. Make a layer of cake on top of chiffon, then more chiffon, more cake, more chiffon. Store in refrigerator overnight and serve with whipped cream. This freezes really well.
