    circa: 1890
    preheat oven to 350º
    generously grease, butter , or spray muffin tins

    1 cup sugar
    1 rounded tablespoon crisco
    1 egg
    1/4 cup molasses
    2 cups flour
    1 cup sour milk (buttermilk)
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon cloves

    Recipe



    In a small mixing bowl cream sugar and crisco. Add egg and blend completely, add molasses and buttermilk slowly.

    Sift dry ingredients together, add and stir only until blended.

    Pour into prepared muffin tins, filling 2/3 full. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until done. Serve hot with butter
