Apple Cake with Lemon Sauce

1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
1 cup shortening, melted
2 medium size apples, peeled, cored and sliced into wedges
cinnamon/sugar

Recipe



Preheat oven to 350°
Grease a 9x9 inch square cake pan
Beat eggs and sugar
Add flour, salt, baking powder and melted shortening
Mix until smooth
Pour batter into cake pan
Arrange apple slices/wedges on top of batter
Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar
Bake 25 to 30 minutes

Sauce

1 cup sugar
2 cups water
1 Tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp lemon flavoring

Combine sauce ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat until sauce thickens
Cut cake into 3x3 inch squares
Serve warm from oven, drizzed generously with hot lemon sauce
