3 cups all purpose flour
4½ teaspoons baking powder
1½ teaspoons salt
¾ cup butter
1½ cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 eggs
1¼ cup milk
1 cup minced maraschino cherries
¼ cup all purpose flour
1 square (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 teaspoon baking soda
Recipe
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Thoroughly blend 3 cups flour into creamed mixture, alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Dust cherries with ¼ cup flour: fold into batter. Remove 1/3 of batter to a small bowl; add chocolate and soda to this. Pour into greased 9 inch round pan. Divide remaining 2/3 into two greased 9 inch round pans. Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 25 to 35 minutes or until done. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Frost with Chocolate Velvet frosting with chocolate layer in the middle.
