Favorite Popcorn Cake

6 quarts popped popcorn
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 (16 oz.) package marshmallows
1 package (6 oz.) gum drops (small, assorted colors -- can use red & green for Christmas, red & pink for Valentine's, etc. can adjust colors to suit the holiday!)
1 cup chopped nuts
Cook marshmallows, butter and oil in double-boiler until all is melted and blended (it takes a while, but it does happen). In largest container combine popcorn, gum drops (whole or cut in half) & nuts. Reserve a few gum drops for decorating.
Pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn and work until well mixed.
Form into a buttered angel food pan by spoonsful, pressing down after each spoonful.
Carefully push cake out of pan and check to see if some gum drops are on outside for color. Replace in pan and chill for 1 hour or more.
Cut or break to serve.
