John Wayne's Cornbread Taco Bake

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 (15 1/4 oz.) can whole kernel corn, drained
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 envelope taco seasoning
1 package Buttermilk Cornbread mix
1 (2.8 oz.) can French fried onions, divided
1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Recipe
In a cast iron skillet, on medium heat, cook beef until no longer pink, drain well. Stir in corn, tomato sauce, water, green pepper and taco seasoning; mix well. Prepare cornbread mix according to package directions on package for cornbread. Stir in half of the onions. Spread over beef mixture. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. Sprinkle with cheese and remaining onions. Bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Serves 6 - 8.
