Lemon Snowflake Cookies

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3 Tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1 egg
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Recipe
Heat oven to 400 degrees. In large bowl, beat 1 cup sugar and margarine until light and fluffy. Add milk, lemon peel, and egg; blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt; mix well. If necessary, refrigerate dough 1 to 2 hours for easier handling.
On lightly floured surface, roll dough, 1/3 at a time, to 1/8" thickness. Cut with lightly floured 2 inch snowflake cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges are a light golden golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Makes about 15 dozen cookies.
