1½ cups butter, softened
1½ cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
¼ cup maple-flavored syrup
4 cups all-purpose flour
Maple Icing (see recipe below)
Coarse colored sugar
Silver dragées (optional)
Recipe
In a large bowl beat butter on medium to high speed 30 seconds. Add brown sugar. Beat until combined. Beat in eggs and syrup until combined. Beat in as much flour as you can. Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour.
Pack dough into a cookie press fitted with a tree shape. Force dough through press onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 375° oven 8 to 10 minutes or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. Cool on wire rack.
Frost each tree with Maple Icing, dust with colored sugar, and top with a silver dragée, if desired (dragées must be removed before eating). Makes 12½ dozen cookies.
Maple Icing: In a medium bowl beat 2 tablespoons butter for 30 seconds. Gradually beat in ¾ cup sifted powdered sugar. Beat in 3 tablespoons maple-flavored syrup. Gradually beat in enough sifted powdered sugar (½ to ¾ cup) for piping consistency. If desired, tint with food coloring.
