Classic Deep South Pecan Pie

List of Ingredients
1/2 Cup Butter or Margarine
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Light Corn Syrup
4 Eggs (beaten)
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1 Unbaked 9-inch Pastry Shell
1 to 1-1/4 Cups Pecan HalvesRecipe
Combine butter, sugar, and corn syrup. Cook over Low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves. Let cool slightly. Add eggs, vanilla, and salt to the mixture. (You can add a little rum at this point, if so desired). Mix well.
Pour filling into the unbaked pie shell and top with pecan halves. Bake at 325-degrees Fahrenheit for 50 to 55 minutes.
Remove the pie, EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE THE FILLING IS NOT "SET." If you bake it until the filling LOOKS done, you'll need a jack-hammer to break through the top. Believe me. Been there, done that.
Can be served cooled or while still warm. (If you really want to commit Calorie Suicide, top the still-warm slice of pie with vanilla ice cream).
