Makes about 4 cups
1/2 cup pecan halves
1/2 cup hazelnuts
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1-1/2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1-1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup roasted whole cashews
1/2 cup roasted whole almonds
2 cups mini-pretzel twists

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread the pecans on a pie plate. Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Transfer to a plate. Using the same pie plate, toast the hazelnuts for about 12 minutes, watching carefully to make sure they do not burn. Transfer hazelnuts to a kitchen towel. Let cool, then rub together vigorously to remove the skins. Add to the pecans.
In a medium bowl, mix the brown sugar with the maple syrup, melted butter, salt, cayenne pepper and cinnamon. Add the pecans, hazelnuts, cashews, almonds and pretzels and toss to coat well.
Spread the nut mixture on a large rimmed baking sheet lined with foil and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool completely on baking sheet, stirring occasionally to separate the nuts.
