    1 cup white sugar
    3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    3/4 cup shredded coconut
    1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 egg
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9"x13" baking pan.

    In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, brown sugar, flour and butter; blend with a pastry blender until the mixture is into coarse crumbs. Remove 2 cups of the mixture to another bowl and reserve the rest.

    Stir the coconut and walnuts into the 2 cups of the sugar mixture. Pat firmly into the greased pan. Stir the baking soda, salt and cinnamon into the reserved mixture.

    Blend the egg, buttermilk and vanilla together. Add to the reserved mixture above and blend well. Spread this over the crust in the pan. Bake for 35 minutes in the oven, or until firm. Allow to cool.

    Tastes better the next day.
