Caramel Walnut Bars

2 cups unsifted flour
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup cold butter or margarine
3/4 cups walnuts, chopped
24 caramels
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (Eagle Brand)
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350*. In large bowl,combine flour, sugar, and egg. Cut in 1/2 cup of butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts. Reserve 2 cups crumb mixture; press remainder firmly on bottom of greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
In the meantime in heavy pan, over low heat melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk and the remaining 1/4 cup of butter. Pour over prepared crust. Top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake 20 minutes or until bubbly. Cool and cut into bars.
