List of Ingredients
1/2 cup - sugar
1/2 cup - brown sugar packed
1/2 cup - butter/margarine
2 - eggs
1 cup - thick sour cream
1/2 teaspoon - baking soda
2 1/4 cup - flour
1 teaspoon - baking powder
1/2 teaspoon - salt
1 teaspoon - vanilla
3 tablespoon - burnt sugar syrup (see below)
1 cup - chocolate chips
Cream together sugars, eggs, and butter. Add the sour cream and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to the egg mixture. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt, then add to egg mixture. Stir together. Add the rest of the ingredients.
Mix all ingredients well and drop by the teaspoonful on a lightly greased cooking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from the oven and let set for a couple of minutes. Frost while warm with burnt sugar frosting (see below). Store in an airtight container.
Burnt Sugar Syrup:
Melt 1 cup white sugar in a heavy skillet, stirring constantly. When dissolved, add 1/2 cup boiling water and stir. (Be careful as mixture will spatter when water is added.) Syrup will keep in refrigerator for several weeks.
Burnt Sugar Frosting:
2 tablespoons softened butter
2 tablespoons cream
2 tablespoons burnt sugar syrup
Mix together until smooth and add 2 cups powdered sugar. Mix well until smooth again. Frost cookies while warm.
