Apple layer:
2 cups flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup margarine or butter
2 cups chopped, peeled tart apples (about 2 medium)
1 egg, slightly beaten
Topping:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoons milk
Whipped cream for topping
Recipe
Heat oven to 350. Spray 9-inch square pan with cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon and baking soda.
With a pastry blender or fork, cut in 3/4 cup butter or margarine until mixture resembles course crumbs. Stir in apples and egg. Press mixture firmly in pan. Bake 25 - 30 minutes, or until puffed in center.
While this is baking, combine all topping ingredients in a 1 quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil one minute stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Spread topping over apple layer. Cool completely, about an hour. Cut in squares and serve with whipped cream.
