Rock Drop Cookies

Scant 1/2 c. butter, cut into small pieces, plus extra for greasing
Scant 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
5 TBSP raw brown sugar
3 1/2 oz. golden raisins
1 oz. candied cherries, finely chopped
1 egg, beaten
2 TBSP milk

Lightly grease a cookie sheet, large enough for 8 large rock drops.
Sift the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Rub in the remaining butter with your fingertips, until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in the raw brown sugar, golden raisins, and chopped candied cherries, mixing well.
Add the beaten egg and the milk to the mixture and mix to form a soft dough.
Spoon 8 mounds of the mixture onto the prepared cookie sheet, spacing them well apart because they will spread while they are cooking.
Bake in a preheated oven, 400°F for about 15-20 minujtes, until firm to the touch.
Remove the rock drops from the oven. Either serve piping hot from the oven, or transfer to a wire rack and let cool before serving.f
