    1/2 cup soft shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
    2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon soda
    1 egg
    2 tablespoons milk

    Recipe



    Heat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Mix shortening, sugar and lemon peel thoroughly in bowl. Blend in egg and milk. Stir flour, baking powder, salt and soda together in another bowl. Mix dry ingredients into shortening mixture. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2-inches apart on baking sheet. Grease the bottom of a glass with margarine. To flatten each cookie, dip glass in sugar and press on dough. For gay cookies, use colored decorators' sugar. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until a light golden tone. Cool on wire rack.

    Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
