Strawberry Dumplings

2 tbsp. butter or margarine
2 tbsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
2 1-lb. pkg. frozen strawberries
1 cup boiling water
Dumplings:
1 c. sifted flour
1½ tsp. baking powder
Dash salt
¼ c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter or margarine
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 to ½ cup milk
Thaw frozen berries. Combine all ingredients for sauce in the order given in heavy skillet or large saucepan. Bring mixture to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer gently, about 5 min. Meanwhile, prepare Dumplings. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut or rub in butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly. Add vanilla to milk. Add milk to flour mixture and stir only enough to moisten flour. Drop by spoonsful onto boiling sauce. Cook uncovered 5 min. Cover and steam gently 15 min. Serve dumplings warn with sauce.
