Almond-Fudge Ice Cream

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 quart milk
2 large eggs
3 cups whipping cream
3/4 cup slivered almonds -- toasted and chopped
1/4 to 1/2 tsp almond extract
slivered almonds, toasted -- garnish
Recipe
Cook the first 3 ingred., 2 cups milk, and eggs in a heavy saucepan over med. heat, whisking until mixture thickens and coats the back of a metal spoon. Stir in remaining 2 cups milk. Remove from heat; cool completely. Stir in cream, chopped almonds, and extract; pour into freezer container of a 5 qt. electric freezer. Freeze according to manufacturers directions. Spoon into a 13x9" pan; cover and freeze at least 1 hour. Garnish, if desired. Makes about 2-1/2 qts
