Orange-Fudge Brownies

1/2 cup butter
2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
Orange Frosting:
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
Recipe
Melt the butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well. Stir in the vanilla and orange zest. Add the flour and mix well.
Spread the mixture into a greased 8 or 9-inch baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 23 to 25 minutes, until an inserted toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Take care not to over-bake. Cool completely before frosting.
Orange Frosting: Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and cream cheese in a medium bowl. Add the powdered sugar and mix well. Beat in the orange juice and orange zest until smooth. If the frosting is too thick, add more juice to thin. If too thin, add more powdered sugar to thicken to the proper spreading consistency. To serve, cut the brownies into 12 or 16 squares.
Tip: The brownies may be made ahead and frozen, with or without the frosting. Thaw at room temperature at least 3 hours before serving.
