    Vanilla Custard Ice Cream

    Source of Recipe

    Internet

    List of Ingredients

    3/4 cup sugar
    2 tablespoons flour
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    2 cups milk
    2 beaten eggs
    2 cups whipping cream*
    1 ½ tablespoons vanilla

Combine sugar, flour, and salt; gradually stir in milk.

Cook and stir over low heat till thick. Add small amount of hot
mixture to eggs and mix well; return to hot mixture.

Cook and stir 1 minute. Pour into another bowl, cover, and chill in refrigerator.

    Add whipping cream and vanilla.

Freeze in 2-quart (or larger) ice cream freezer.

    Makes 1¼ quarts.

*Half-and-half cream may be substituted for part, or all,
    of the whipping cream.

    Homemade Ice Cream Tip:

It's easy to convert your favorite recipe that calls for uncooked eggs.

Just combine the milk, beaten eggs and sugar in the recipe in a saucepan, then cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and reaches a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit—that's when it coats a metal spoon. Then proceed with the other ingredients and prepare the recipe according to the original directions.
