Applesauce Raisin Brownies w/Orange

Brownies
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup applesauce
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Orange Frosting
1 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
For brownies, melt butter in small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir in brown sugar. Stir in applesauce, egg and vanilla.
In bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, baking soda and nutmeg. Add applesauce mixture. Blend thoroughly. Add raisins and nuts. Stir until well combined.
Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until done. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.
For frosting, beat together confectioners' sugar, butter, milk and vanilla until smooth in small mixing bowl. Beat in orange zest. (Beat in a few more drops milk to reach spreading consistency, if needed.) Spread over brownies. Garnish with additional grated orange zest, if desired. Store covered.
Serving quantity: Makes 2 dozen.
