Dough:
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 cup warm ( not hot ) water
2 Tbsp Canola oil
1 tsp salt
1 egg
3 to 31/2 cups all purpose flour
Filling:
1 lb ground beef
4 cups shredded cabbage
1 med. onion, chopped
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
Recipe
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar, oil, 1 teaspoon salt, egg and1 cup of the flour. Beat until smooth. Mix enough of the remaining flour to mak dough soft, but easy to handle. Turn onto well floured surface. knead until smooth and elastic, about5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turn greased side up. Cover an let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 1 hour. Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.
Cook and stir beef in a 10 inch skillet until light brown; drain. Stir in cabbage, onion, water, 1/2 teaspoon salt & 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, 10 to 15 minutes.
When ready, punch down dough. Roll in to 16 inch squares on a well floured surface. Cut into 16 (4 inch ) squares. Place about 1/4 cup of beef filling in the center of each square. Bring corners up and together; pinch to seal. Place seam side down on greased cookie sheet. Shaped into rounds. Let rise until double, about 1 hour. Heat oven to 375. Bake until light brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Brush tops with melted butter.
