List of Ingredients
6 eggs
3 tablespoons butter
3 cups sugar
3 tablespoons vanilla
3 lemons
3 oranges
1 cup milk
1/2 cup baking powder (yes, 1/2 cup!)
1 cup brandy or whiskey
12 cups flour
Recipe
Supplies: Mixer, your hands and three well-greased cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, combine the eggs, butter, sugar and vanilla. Grate the rinds of the lemons and oranges into the mixture, then cut each fruit in half and squeeze the juices into the mixture. Add the milk, baking powder and liquor. Mix. Begin adding the flour and continue mixing. The batter will turn to dough.
To shape bread rings, pull off a section of dough a little larger than a baseball. (There should be six balls.) Roll it between your hands into a rope and place on a cookie sheet in a circle OR place the ball on a cookie sheet, flatten, then use your fingertips to pull away the center and make the ring. You should be able to place two rings on each cookie sheet.
Brush tops with beaten eggs. Say a prayer.
Bake at 300 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Slice. Serve with coffee. These freeze well.
