    1 cup raisins
    3 1/4 cups flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. allspice
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1 cup sugar
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 orange rind, grated
    3 tbsp. orange juice
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    3/4 tsp. ginger
    1 cup butter, softened
    1 egg
    1 lemon rind, grated

    Glaze:
    1 1/2 cups confectioner�s sugar
    4 tbsp. candied fruit, optional
    3 tbsp. lemon juice

    Recipe



    Combine raisins and orange juice. Set aside to plump.

    Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg, vanilla and lemon and orange rind. Stir in 2 cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, and spices. Then add raisins and juice. Add remaining flour. Do not overbeat.

    Shape dough into 1� balls. Refrigerate dough briefly if it is too soft. Place balls 1� apart on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake in preheated 350� oven for 7-9 minutes, or until cookies feel nearly firm when gently pressed. Let cookies cool slightly on baking sheet, and then remove to wire racks. Prepare glaze by stirring together confectioner�s sugar and juice until mixture is smooth and thin. Drizzle glaze on the warm cookies, and then lightly press on candied fruit or sprinkles.

    Makes 5 dozen cookies.
