    Red Wine Marinated Peaches

    6 ripe medium peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced, or pears, cored and sliced
    1 1/2 cups of fruity red wine, such as Beaujolais or dry white wine
    3/4 cup of sugar
    1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves

    Place the peaches or pears in a large bowl. For the marinade, in a medium saucepan combine the wine, sugar, cinnamon and cloves. Cook and stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the marinade over the peaches, toss gently to coat. Marinate at room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. To serve, spoon the peaches and marinade into dessert dishes. Makes 6 servings
