Smoked Provolone Potatoes

1 pound (2 medium) baking potatoes
salt and pepper
1 to 1 1/4 cups whipping cream
1/3 cup smoked provolone cheese, shredded
Recipe
Peel and slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch thick slices. Arrange them in a 9-in baking dish in one layer by overlapping them. Sprinkle with salt and white pepper, to taste. Pour enough cream over the potatoes to barely cover. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Top with the shredded cheese and bake for 5 to 10 minutes more, until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. Serves 4.
