Cake Mix Caramel Brownies

14 oz. bag caramels
2/3 C. plus 1/4 C. evaporated skimmed milk, divided
1 box German Chocolate cake (18.5 oz)
4 T. canola oil
1/4 C. chocolate syrup
1/2 C. chopped nuts
2/3 C. chocolate chips Recipe
Preheat oven to 350º
Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with canola cooking spray
Add unwrapped caramels and 1/3 C. evaporated milk to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes, then stir. Repeat this two or three more times until caramels are melted and a smooth sauce has formed. Set aside.
Add cake mix, canola, 1/3 C. plus 1/4 C. evaporated milk, and chocolate syrup to mixing bowl and beat at medium low speed for 1 minute. Stir in nuts.
Reserve 1 C. of the brownie batter for later. Spread the remaining batter evenly in the prepared pan.
Bake for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and pour caramel sauce evenly over the top.
Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Then drop heaping tsp. of reserved batter over the top (not every spot of caramel will be covered).
Bake about 20 minutes longer. Don't overcook if you want the brownies to be fudgy.
Let cool in pan and cut into 36 brownies.
