Strawberry Angel Trifle

1 pkg angel food cake mix
5 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen and thawed
6 oz pkg strawberry flavored gelatin
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 cups boiling water
1 ½ cup whipping cream
¼ cup icing sugar, sifted

Recipe



Prepare angel food cake mix according to package directions; cool. Mash half the berries and combine in saucepan with gelatin, sugar and boiling water. Heat gently just until dissolved. Chill until mixture slightly thickens. Reserve a few whole berries for garnish and slice remainder into gelatin mixture. Stir well. Cut cake into 1 inch cubes. Put half of cake cubes into glass servings dish. Cover with half of gelatin mixture. Repeat layers. Chill until set. Beat whipping cream and icing sugar to stiff peaks. Reserve some for decoration. Spread over strawberry mixture. Garnish with reserved cream and berries.
