Recipe Introduction
From friend Robin Covert 06/2002
* My mom (Bryte) used to make 4 dozen biscuits every morning. Boyd would wake up at the crack of dawn to start the stove. He'd get wood and then stoke the wood burning cook stove. Then he'd either curl up behind it and do his homework or go to sleep. My mom would make the biscuits. They would eat the biscuits for breakfast and have sandwiches for lunch with the biscuits as the bread and any leftover would be for supper.
List of Ingredients
1 pkg. dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
2 ½ cups flour
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/8 cup sugar
½ cup shortening
1 c buttermilk
Recipe
Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in shortening as for pie (crumbled). Stir in buttermilk and yeast mix and blend thoroughly. The dough is ready to refrigerate. When time to make biscuits, turn dough on floured board and knead lightly. Roll out and cut with biscuit cutter. Place in greased pan. Let dough rise slightly before baking in 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes
