POPPY'S BAKLAVA
List of Ingredients
16 OUNCES OF CRUSHED WALNUTS
1 TABLESPOON OF SUGAR
1 TABLESPOON OF CINNAMON
2 TEETHING BISCUITS -- CRUSHED
1 STICK OF MELTED BUTTER
1 BOX OF FILO SHEETS
SYRUP:
6 CUPS OF WATER
5 CUPS OF SUGAR
3 TEASPOONS OF VANILLA
1 TEASPOON OF LEMON JUICE
Recipe
MIX THE DRY INGRED. TOGETHER AND SET ASIDE. MAKE SYRUP MIXTURE AND COOK UNTIL THICK (ABOUT 20 MINUTES).
THAW FILO SHEETS IN FRIDGE PRIOR TO USE. UNFOLD AND USING 2 SHEETS AT A TIME, BRUSH BUTTER ON EACH SHEET AND PLACE ON TOP OF EACH OTHER. CUT THE FILOS INTO A GRID FASHION. ABOUT 3"X3" SQUARES EACH. PLACE A TABLESPOON OF DRY MIXTURE INTO THE CENTER. THEN BRING BOTH SIDES TO THE MIDDLE AND ROLL. (LOOKS LIKE A LOG WHEN DONE) PLACE IN A 9X13 PAN AND CONTINUE W/ THE REST UNTIL DONE W/DRY MIXTURE. WHEN PAN IS FULL BRUSH REMAINDER OF BUTTER ON THE TOP AND BAKE FOR 15-20 MINUTES AT 350. COOL. POUR HOT SYRUP OVER THE MIXTURE AND THEN TURN ALL THE ROLLS TO INSURE THE SYRUP IS ON BOTH SIDES. REFRIDGERATE.
**NOTE WHEN POURING MIXTURE OVER THE ROLLS, THE SYRUP MUST BE HOT, AND THE ROLLS MUST BE COOL.
BAKLAVA WILL REMAIN GOOD FOR ONE MONTH IN THE FRIDGE.
