    Source of Recipe

    Laurel Bradley

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups boiling water
    1 cup oatmeal
    2 packages dry yeast
    1/3 cup warm water
    1 Tbs salt
    1/2 cup honey
2 Tbs butter or oleo, melted
    4 - 5 cups flour
1 egg beaten with 1 Tbs water

    Recipe

    Set oven to 325 degrees

In a large mixer bowl, pour the boiling water over the oats and let rest until completely softened ( apx 30 minutes).

In a small owl, combine the yeast and water, let stand 10 minutes.

To the oat mixture, add the salt, honey and melted butter; combine and then stir in the yeast.

Gradually add enough flour to make the dough kneadable. Knead for 10 minutes adding flour if needed.

Put dough in a oiled bowl, turning over to cover both sides.
Cover with a damp and let rise until double - 1 hour.
Punch down and shape into 2 loaves and put in lightly greased pans that have been sprinkled with some oats.

    There is NO second rising.

Beat egg and water, brush on loaves and sprinkle with oats.

Bake for 50 minutes or until they are golden brown.
When baked tip out of pans to cool.
