Recipe Introduction
This is a compilation of my mother's ideas , mine and the many cookbooks I own . It's the family favorite .
List of Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef ( prefer chuck or better)
- 2 mediun onions chopped (1 1/.2 cups)
- 24 oz. bottle of catsup
- 1 large can diced tomatoes (or 2- 14,5 oz, cans)
- 1 1/2 cups water ( fill catsup bottle half full after empty)
- 1 14oz, can of kidney beans
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 2 tablespoons sugar ( or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon garlic satl
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3-4 tablespoons chili powder ( or to taste)
Instructions
- Brown beef and onions in 6 quart pan on medium high heat . Lower hear to simmer and add the rest of the ingredients .
- Cook for 45 minutes on low heat . Skim off grease or let stand overnight in fridge and pick of hardened grease .
- Serve with saltines . For a special company dish sprinkle on fresh chopped onions and shredded cheddar .
- Serves 8-10 .
Final Comments
There's nothing better than his chili on a dreary , rainy or cold day . It freezes well too .
