    White Butter Cake

    Source of Recipe

    The Hali'imaile General Store Cookbook

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 cups flour
    • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
    • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking power
    • 3/4 teaspoon salt
    • 6 egg yolks
    • 1 cup milk
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extrat
    • 3/4 cup unsalted butter; at room temp.

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour a 9-cup Bundt pan. To prepare the cake, in a bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, mix together the egg yolks, 1/2 cup milk, and the vanilla until blended. Add the butter and the remaining 1/2 cup milk to the dry mixture and, using an electric mixer on medium-low speed, beat for about 3 minutes until a smooth meal forms. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Slowly add the yolk mixture to the flour mixture in 3 batches, making sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl after each addition.
    2. Pour into the prepared Bundt pan and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the cake springs back to the touch. Invert the cake onto a rack immediately and allow to cool. Using a serrated knife, cut the cake horizontally into 2 layers.
