    Recipe Introduction

My Mom use to make these when I was a child and we all loved them so much, my brother Bane would eat them as fast as they came out of the oven. Mom would put a clean dish towel in a nice bowl and lay the cookie/cake in them. Unfortunately I didn't have the recipe as Mom just cooked from scratch but after lots of searching and changing I finally hit on the recipe as close as I could. Give them a try and hope you like them.

    List of Ingredients

    Ingredients:
    • 2 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1 cup lard, or solid shortening
    • 2 eggs
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • Self rising flour
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    Recipe

    Preparation:
Cream sugar and lard; add beaten eggs. Add milk and just enough flour to make a soft dough, the right consistency to roll out. The dough is sticky and like satin but you really have to add flour until it is pretty stiff. Always cook one cookie so you can tell if you need to add more flour. Roll out dough to at least an inch thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter and bake in a 350° oven just until light brown. I halved this recipe and it made plenty. Cook about ten minutes and then turn on broiler and brown approx. 1 to 2 minutes. Cool and enjoy.
