    Red Velvet Cake

    Recipe Introduction

    Everyone loves Red Velvet cake. I often surprised my family and friends by making this dessert. It disappears quick.

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 cup shosrtening
    1-1/2 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1 ounce red food coloring
    1 ounce of water
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 cup buttermilk
    2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 tablespoon vinegar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    FROSTING AS FOLLOWS:
    1 cup milk
    1/4 cup flour
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    1/2 cup margarine
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and blend. Add food coloring and water, then cocoa. Blend in buttermilk, add flour and salt gradually. Add vanilla and beat until mixed. Mix vinegar and soda; stir in last (do not beat). Pour into two 9 inch round baking pans and bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 350. For frosting, Cook milk and flour until thick and cool. Beat sugar, and shortening and butter until fluffy on high speed of mixer. Add vanilla and beat until icing is very fluffy. Frost cake.
