Recipe Introduction
I made this as a sample for Thanksgiving Dinner at my Nephews. He said there was only one thing wrong with it, I didn't make enough! He could have drank a gallon by himself.
List of Ingredients
5-1/2 cups milk (whole milk)
2 cups Heavy Cream
1 TB vanilla
1-1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
6 large eggs
Recipe
In large double boiler ( I only have a small so had to half the recipe),heat the milk, cream, vanilla just until scalded, just before the boiling point. Remove from heat and add sugar and salt, then whisk until sugar is dissolved. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs. To temper the eggs, slowly whisk about 2 cups of warm milk mixture into the eggs and then whisk the milk egg mixture into the remaining milk in pan. Cook on low heat. Whisking constantly for about 10 to 15 minutes or until mixture is thickened and coats the back of a metal spoon. Remove from heat and strain. cool for 1 hour and then refrigerate.
