Recipe Introduction
The bride's grandmother brought a DELICIOUS spread
Perhaps it's that a Southern hostess always likes ANYTHING you can
serve poured over cream cheese or a cheese mixture, surrounded by
crackers.
It may seem to be an amalgam of really unrelated items which just
don't seem to fit together, but try it once, and it will be on your
holiday party list forever.
Cheese Spread
1/2 pound finely grated sharp Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup Hellmann's Mayonnaise
1 crushed garlic clove
several turns of pepper mill
1 cup strawberry preserves OR 1 cup chutney for top
Place the cheese, mayonnaise, garlic and pepper into a blender
/food processor, if you wish, and blend until smooth, or mix by hand.
Line a 2 cup mold or bowl or cake pan with plastic wrap. Pour/pack the
cheese mixture into the mold. Refrigerate to set. Place on a serving plate.
Serve with preserves or chutney on top or with little crackers, breads or toasts.
