my family
This one has been in my family for years, there have been
some slight changes to the original recipe. I also have
this under ethnic as #1 Hungarian Goulash, but can never
seem to find it when I want it so am listing it under
the beef catagory too.
cubes - Hungarian Beef Goulash*, my style
1 1/2 pounds beef cubes
flour for coating
2 Tablespoons oil
1 - 2 diced onions
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
4 1/2 cups water
2 good pinches garlic powder
3 pinches allspice
1, 12 ounce can tomato paste
10 small potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/2's
1/2 of a 1 pound bag wide egg noodles
Dip the meat in some flour, coating all the sides.
Heat the oil in a Dutch oven type pot.
Brown the meat and onions.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper while browning.
Then add the paprika, 1 cup of the water, the garlic
powder, allspice and tomato paste and stir.
Simmer for 5 minutes, uncovered.
Add the other 3 1/2 cups water while stirring.
Lay the potatoes in.
Cover and cook on a medium/low heat until the meat and
potatoes are tender.
Cook noodles according to package directions and drain.
Serve beef mixture over top of the noodles.
. . . . .
You may want to make 1/2 the amount as it does make a large amount.
