steak - Country Fried w/creamy gravy #2
6 slices of round steak (tenderized)
...or what is called cube steaks
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup vegetable shortening
water
Pour flour into a small bowl.
Add salt and pepper and mix well.
Take each piece of and roll in the flour on both sides,
covering well with flour. (If you lightly rinse with
water and shake off excess, it may help the flour
mixture to coat better.
Heat shortening in a large skillet. When hot, reduce
heat to medium.
Place each piece of steak into skillet and broth both
sides. When browned, drain off all excess grease.
When grease is drained pour enough water into the
skillet to completely cover all pieces of steak.
Cover with lid and reduce heat to simmer.
Cook on simmer until steak is tender.
The water will form a gravy.
