steak - Swiss Steak Sauterne
2 pounds round steak, cut 1/2 inch thick
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
flour
oil
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1 cup sauterne (or other sweet white dinner wine)
1, 10 3/4 ounce can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
...or 1, 6 ounce can sliced mushrooms, undrained
Pound steak, and cut into 6 serving size pieces.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper, dip in flour.
In a heavy skillet brown meat and onions in heated oil.
When well browned, add wine and mushroom mushroom soup.
Cover and cook over low heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or
until meat is tender.
Serves 4.
