List of Ingredients
1 1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. white sugar
3/4 c. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
5 2/3 c. flour
1 ounce active dry yeast, ( 1 packet)
1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. candied citrus peel
1/2 c. candied cherriesRecipe
Scald milk.
Add sugar, butter, and salt. Let cool to lukewarm.
Add 2 whole eggs, and 2 yolks and mix.
Add to 3 cups flour and yeast and mix well.
Let rise until double.
Add cardamom, raisins, citron, and cherries, and the rest of flour.
Place on floured board and knead.
Let rise in a greased bowl.
Cut into 3 pieces and roll each into an oval shape.
Butter, and fold in half lengthwise.
Place on greased baking sheet.
Cover, and let rise until double.
Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
Remove to a rack.
When cool, frost with white butter frosting.
Decorate with candied cherry halves and sprinkle with colored sugar.
Makes 3 loaves or 36 servings.
