2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 level teaspoon baking soda
1 level tablespoon baking powder
5 tablespoon shortening,
...(or use 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter)
1 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees(F).
Grease a square baking pan.
Sift dry ingredients into a medium bowl.
Cut the butter in with a pastry blender.
Make a hole in the center.
Pour in buttermilk, and mix lightly with a fork,
until flour is moistened thoroughly.
Flour work surface and knead dough 3 times.
Pat dough out until about 1/2 inch thick or to liking.
Cut into preferred shape, or use a greased glass.
Place dough into the pan, with the edges touching.
Bake for 12 - 15 minutes.
