scratch - Milky Way Cake #2

6 Milky Way Bars, cut into chunks
1/2 c. + 1/2 c. butter, room temp, (2 sticks)
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts, optional

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour pan.
Melt candy bars and 1/2 c. of the butter in a saucepan over a very low heat. Set aside.
Mix flour and baking soda together. Set aside.
Beat sugar and remaining 1/2 c. butter until fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add the flour mix alternately with buttermilk, stirring until smooth.
Add the candy mixture, stirring well.
Stir in vanilla and nuts.
Pour batter into pan and bake for 1 hour and 15 to 25 minutes, or until tester comes out clean.
Cool in pan on wire rack for 20 minutes.
Remove from pan and let cool completely, then frost.
