scratch - Pound Cake #1, cold oven

    Source of Recipe

    from my recipe box

    Recipe Introduction

I made this for Easter, 2004 and it was quite good. I saw one on all recipes from Etta Coates that was a bit similar, with less eggs and missing the baking powder and salt. Check out the link below.

    List of Ingredients

scratch - Pound Cake #1, cold oven

    1 cup butter, (2 sticks)
    1 cup butter flavored shortening
    3 cups white granulated sugar
    5 large eggs, room temperature
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1 cup milk
    3 cups all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 LEVEL teaspoon baking powder

Do not heat oven. Grease and flour a 10 inch tube, (angel food cake) pan.
Cream together butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat
eggs in, 1 at a time. Add vanilla. Taking turns, add flour, then milk.
    Batter
will be thick. Pour into pan.I set my rack on the 2nd from the bottom rack
setting and set the cake in the COLD oven. Turn on to 300 degrees F.
Bake for 90 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10
minutes, then place on a wire rack and let cool completely.
Makes 1 cake, or 16 servings.
