    scratch - White Cake Nut Loafs

    3/4 cup softened butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    21/2 cups flour
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1/2 cup milk
    1 cup walnut meat cut in pieces
    8 egg whites, beaten well

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease
    and flour bread pan(s). Stir flour, baking powder
    and cream of tartar together and set aside.Cream
    butter. Gradually add sugar and beat well. Add milk
    and flour mixture alternately. Mix in the walnuts. Add
    egg whites carefully. Spoon into pan(s) and bake until
    tester comes out clean. Start testing at 30 minutes.
    Let cool completely. This makes 2 loaves.
