for the cake:
2 Tablespoons butter
1 cup granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 cups whole, fresh uncooked cranberries
for the sauce:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup granulated white sugar
1/2 cup cream
for the cake:
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and flour an 8 or 9 inch square pan.
Thoroughly cream butter and sugar.
Beat in vanilla.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
Fold in cranberries.
Pour into pan. Bake for about 35 minutes.
Top with hot butter sauce when cut and served.
for the sauce:
Melt butter.
Blend in sugar.
Stir in cream.
Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
