    scratch - Peppermint Pound Cake

    1 cup shortening
    2 cups sugar
    4 large eggs
    1 teaspoon peppermint extract
    1 teaspoon butter flavoring
    1/2 teaspoon red food coloring, optional
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3 Cups Flour, sifted
    3/4 cup buttermilk
    1 level teaspoon baking soda
    1 Tablespoon vinegar
    1/4 cup peppermint candy, crushed

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
    Grease and flour a 9 or 10 inch angel food cake pan
    or spring form pan.
    Cream shortening and sugar together.
    Add eggs, one at a time. Mix well.
    Add peppermint extract, butter flavoring, red color,
    and then the salt.
    Sift flour again, add alternately with buttermilk.
    Mix baking soda and vinegar in small bowl, then add
    to above mixture. Blend well.
    Fold in crushed candy. Pour into baking pan.
    Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
